SUPER 12 QUARTERFINALS
WITH the initial skirmishes out of the way, the level of intensity will move up a level when the quarterfinals of the Eastern Cape Super 12 club rugby tournament are played on Saturday, March 5.
Both last year’s finalists, champions East London Police and Uitenhage outfit Gardens, are in the mix and it promises to be a tough battle for a place in the semifinals.
In the only all-Border clash, EL Police host Walter Sisulu University and should be favoured to advance, but they will not be taking the varsity outfit lightly.
EP clubs dominate the remaining quarterfinals, with five teams in action in the three matches. The other Border side to feature will be Breakers, who face one of the toughest last eight challenges when they come up against Gardens.
Park suffered a surprise loss to Breakers last weekend, but still advanced and now face another testing encounter against Uitenhage rivals Progess.
Spring Rose will be hoping to make their mark in the competition, but will be pushed all the way by the energetic Grahamstown Brumbies outfit.
The fixtures, starting at 3.30pm, are: Spring Rose (EP) v Brumbies (EP), Gardens (EP) v Breakers (Border), Park (EP) v Progress (EP), EL Police (Border) v Walter Sisulu University (Border).
