Team Announcement: Toyota Cheetahs vs Cardiff Blues
The Toyota Cheetahs will be taking on Cardiff Blues on Saturday, 10 February at 21:35 (SA time) at Cardiff Arms Park for their very first game in Wales. The match will be broadcasted live on SuperSport 1.
The Toyota Cheetahs showed a lot of muscle since joining Guinness PRO14 championship in September 2017 and the mission remains to close the gap on second place. The Toyota Cheetahs are third on the log in Conference A, trailing Munster with only three points.
The team have played in 13 matches so far of which they have won eight with a winning rate of 88% at home. The Toyota Cheetahs have a total of 51 tries and an overall winning rate of 62%. With eight (five away and three home) matches still to play before the play-offs, the Toyota Cheetahs are competing for home play-offs. Their only defeat in their last five Guinness PRO14 matches was 21-27 in Treviso on January 6.
Although this will be the first Guinness PRO14 encounter for the two teams, they have previously met in a friendly match for the Sir George Grey Cub in 2012 in Bloemfontein.
Coach Rory Duncan has announced his team for the match:
• Springbok centre and Captain of the Toyota Cheetahs, Francois Venter will be making his return from injury.
• Malcolm Jaer will be making his Guinness PRO14 debut when he sets foot to field.
• Tier Schoeman will be playing in his 50th match for the Toyota Cheetahs.
The following players are not eligible for team selection due to injury:
William Small-Smith (knee), Dennis Visser (knee), Tian Meyer (groin), Niell Jordaan (ankle), Elandré Huggett (knee) Ruan van Rensburg, (knee), Lloyd Greeff (shoulder).
The team will be travelling to Scotland next week for the second match of their three week where they will be facing log leaders, Glasgow Warriors in Glasgow on Friday, 16 February at 21:35 (SA time).
On Saturday, 24 February the Toyota Cheetahs will be back in Wales where they will be taking on Ospreys in Swansea at 19:30 (SA time).
