The Crusaders XI and All Stars XI have named their teams for the Crusaders Charity Cricket this Sunday to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Association of New Zealand.

The reigning champions, the Crusaders XI, will be captained by Andy Ellis.  While rugby is clearly the sport of choice for all of the members of this team, there are a few players who have some cricketing experience.  Ellis was a former Canterbury age group cricketer and teammates Mitchell Drummond, Tyler Bleyendaal and Colin Slade have also represented at age grade level.

“As for the rest of the team, what they are lacking in experience I’m sure they’ll make up for in enthusiasm,” Ellis said.  “There may be one or two players who have never even held a cricket bat before, but I’m sure they’ll still have a great time giving it a go!”

The All Stars XI will be captained by Crusaders Head Coach Todd Blackadder.  He is joined by his assistant coach Tabai Matson and fellow rugby identities, Stuart Loe, Robbie Deans and Leon MacDonald.  Former cricketers Geoff Allott, Stephen Fleming and Andrew Nuttall will bring some valuable experience to the side and help the All Stars’ chances of breaking the Crusaders XI’s winning streak.

The 20/20 match begins at 11am on Sunday at Christchurch Boys High School.  There will be a half time auction of signed sporting goods and other great donated items.
