Tickets on sale for Crusaders in Nelson
The Crusaders are returning to play in Nelson for the first time since 2011, and tickets for this mouthwatering match against the Hurricanes on Friday 29 May go on public sale tomorrow.
The Crusaders have had wonderful support from the Tasman region in past seasons, with fixtures in the 2011 season drawing huge crowds. The Crusaders are hoping this derby match will see Trafalgar Park in Nelson filled to capacity.
Crusaders Chief Executive Hamish Riach commented that this match would be an amazing occasion for the Tasman region, and with it being a long holiday weekend, Crusaders fans from all over the region would be able to travel to support their team.
“This will be a highly anticipated game with the way the Hurricanes have been playing this season. It is the Crusaders’ last home game of the regular season, so we are hoping that supporters from across the region will take the opportunity of a long weekend in Nelson to support their team and turn Trafalgar Park red and black,” Mr Riach said.
Head of Tasman Rugby, Tony Lewis, said the support of the Nelson City Council has been a significant factor in bringing this game to Nelson. This game has received sponsorship funding from the Nelson Events Marketing & Development Programme, which is funded by the Nelson City Council. The Programme’s objective is to stimulate Nelson City’s economy in the shoulder and off seasons by bringing new spending through visitors coming to Nelson for distinct events.
“We are really grateful for the support of the Nelson City Council, and we know the region will get in behind our team and make the event a complete success,” Mr Lewis said.
“It’s also inspiring for our junior rugby players, who look up to players like Mitchell Drummond, Owen Franks, Kieron Fonotia and Tim Perry, who have come from or played in the Tasman region and gone on to represent us in the Crusaders. To see these guys on home soil is great for building success of rugby within our region.”
Nelson Deputy Mayor, Paul Matheson, said the game was a great opportunity for locals to attend a world-class sporting event, as well as a great opportunity for those outside of Nelson to come and enjoy all that the region has to offer, as well as a fantastic rugby game.
“We are excited to host another major event in Nelson following on from the Cricket World Cup. Nelson is a perfect venue for supporters of either team to make the short trip over for the long weekend. These events are an excellent fit for the city, and with Super Rugby being an international competition, this match also gives us the opportunity to showcase Nelson to a national and global audience,” Mr Matheson said.
