Tickets for the weekend’s Cell C Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens are selling at a hot pace, with locals snapping up more than 4 000 tickets on Thursday alone.
With less than 48 hours to go until kick-off on Saturday morning, event organisers have confirmed that 45 000 tickets overall were sold so far for the annual Sevens showpiece. The R50 tickets on the East Stand have sold out for Sunday while there are only a few left in this category for Saturday.
The two-day international event takes place this coming weekend, on 13 and 14 December in the iconic Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
The Cell C Nelson Mandela Bay Sevens tournament is Round 3 of the HSBC Sevens World Series, which consists of nine tournaments worldwide. The Springbok Sevens are the defending tournament champions.
Rugby fever is running high in Port Elizabeth, where 16 international teams will fight it out for the 2014 edition. The Blitzboks won the Dubai Sevens in style last weekend and are currently in second spot on the World Series log after two rounds. Fiji leads the standings on 39 points, two more than South Africa.
South Africa’s Cecil Africa, Frankie Horne and Seabelo Senatla lead a list of Sevens stars who will be in action during the much-anticipated two-day Sevens extravaganza.
A host of top-class musicians such as DJ Fresh, MiCasa, Jimmy Nevis and 1st Project will entertain the rugby supporters during the course of the two days.
Tickets are priced from just R30 and are available from Computicket as well as the Money Markets in all Shoprite and Checkers outlets.
Gates open at 08h30 on the two match days, with the action kicking off 10h30 on Saturday and 10h51 on Sunday.
