The Eastern Cape Sports Council  and Border Rugby Union have launch a new programme for Mdantsane Primary Schools.  The programme is called Township School Rugby Revival Programme.  This initiative is aimed at developing and promoting rugby in Mdantsane. The programme is themed: BUILDING FUTURE BULLDOGS BY GROWING THE GAME OF RUGBY IN SCHOOLS.

 

This will be an annual project that will be played between July and September.   It is aimed at kids under the age of 12 years from eight Mdantsane rugby playing schools.  Their matches will be played on Wednesdays at a central venue which is the Nu.1 in Mdantsane.

 

The programme was officially opened by Khanyisa Gosa from the Eastern Cape Sport Council.  She emphasized the importance of kids involvement in sport at schools. She said; “It is critical that the parents show support to their kids in the duration of this programme. Supporting kids encourange them to continue playing and for to set targets for themselves as far as sport is concerned.  For South Africans to realize transformation dream we will have to see talented kids from your respective schools playing and progressing through the ranks.  The main programme objective is to revive rugby in Mdantsane and to see all schools active every Wednesday afternoon.”

        

During the day’s proceedings Siya Mdaka Border Bulldogs Captain also had an opportunity to speak to the kids.  He said encourage them to dream so that one day they can live the dream.  He said he is also a product of the Border u12 development and urged the charismatic kids to use the opportunity.  Thobile Mtya a former black Springbok players was on hand to also give advice to the teachers and the kids.  He asked the teachers to be patient with the kids and that they dedicate time to coaching the kids.

 

The event was the overall success, the kids got to test each other by playing against each other to end of the launch.  Border Rugby General Manager Dumisani Mhani expressed his excitement and gratitude about the programme, he said; the programme will go a long way in reviving rugby in Mdantsane and that will  assist Border Rugby development in many ways.
