Treu adds four to Springbok Sevens squad
Springbok Sevens coach Paul Treu added four players to the South African squad on Monday in preparation for the Emirates Airline SA Sevens tournament on Friday and Saturday in George.
Paul Delport, Jacques Engelbrecht, Steven Hunt and Chris Dry were added to the squad who won the Plate at in Dubai.
Renfred Dazel, the SA Sevens playmaker, was due to undergo a scan on Monday afternoon after he received a blow to the head against the USA on Saturday, which forced him to leave the field on a stretcher.
“We are taking every possible precaution and our medical team will continue to monitor Renfred during the next couple of days,” explained Treu.
The SA Sevens coach added he wanted to have another look at some options and that is why he has called up four more players to join the team at their Fancourt hotel in George.
“I have until Thursday to finalise the squad and that gives more a bit more time to work with some options.
The players have all settled in very nicely and the guys are looking forward to play in front of their home fans.
“The performance in the Plate Final against Australia has certainly lifted the players and we want to build on that momentum. We had a gym and pool session today and will take it easy over the next few days because of the quick turnaround time between the two tournaments,” added Treu.
South Africa will have it first on-field session on Tuesday morning at their training venue, the beautiful Saasveld rugby ground.
