Cardiff Blues fullback, Joaquín Tuculet, has confirmed that he will return home to Argentina to represent his country’s Super Rugby team from 2016.

Tuculet joins his national captain, Agustin Creevy, as the first European-based players to commit to the new team and has signed through until at least the end of the 2018 Super Rugby season.

“It is with great pride that I have decided to commit to this project by the UAR and Daniel Hourcade,” he said.

“After the experience of being able to play in The Rugby Championship and seeing the level of play of those selected from the southern hemisphere, what better place to play that in the Super Rugby and also continue the development of our country.”

Assistant Secretary of the UAR, Victor Luaces, added, “It is an honor to welcome Joaquín and this continues to illustrate the support all players have for the project we face in the coming years.”

Tuculet was born in La Plata and first joined the Argentinean junior ranks at 2008 when he was selected for the U19 squad. He has subsequently played at U19, Jaguars, Pumas Sevens and Test level and has 20 caps to his name.

The 25-year-old also has an extensive European résumé with stints at the Sale Sharks (2011-12), Grenoble (2012-13), Bordeaux Bègles (2013-14) and the Cardiff Blues (2014-15).
