Unbeaten England Sevens Progress to Cup Quarter-Finals in Wellington
England Sevens will face Scotland in the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Cup quarter-finals on Sunday (KO 11.38pm GMT this evening, live on Sky Sports 2) after an unbeaten first day in Wellington.
Simon Amor’s side sealed victories over Papua New Guinea (40-0), Argentina (26-7) and Kenya (31-12) to seal their place in the last eight of the Cup.
Looking ahead to day two, England Sevens captain Tom Mitchell said: “We know Scotland very well and we are pretty close with them after training with some of them for GB. It’s always a fierce game with them, it’ll be a tough one.”
England, who won the last series leg in Cape Town, opened their account in Wellington with a comfortable win over Papua New Guinea with tries from Dan Bibby, Charlie Hayter, Tom Mitchell, Richard de Carpentier, James Rodwell and Dan Norton sealing the victory.
A win against Argentina followed with Norton, Alex Davis, Mitchell and Lindsay-Hague all crossing to continue their fine start in New Zealand.
Amor’s side ended the day by beating Kenya thanks to tries from Norton, Bibby, Mitchell, Davis and Lindsay-Hague to top Pool A.
Elsewhere, South Africa, Fiji, Canada, New Zealand, France and England’s next opponents Scotland also progressed to the last eight of the quarters.
