Vodacom Blue Bulls unchanged for Sharks semi-final
Vodacom Blue Bulls coach Frans Ludeke named an unchanged side for Saturday’s Absa Currie Cup semi-final clash against the Sharks in Durban.
The same team that started the match against Griquas last weekend will again take the field at the Absa Stadium, with fit-again Pierre Spies and Deon Stegmann coming onto the bench, replacing Jaco Engels and CJ Stander.
Spies and Stegmann passed fitness tests on Tuesday and Ludeke had no hesitation in calling on their services.
“Both have been part of the team for a couple of years now, so will have no problem to slot in. Pierre and Deon are world class players and we are excited to finally get them involved again,” the coach said.
The Blue Bulls will play in their ninth consecutive semi-final and last played the Sharks at this knock-out stage in 2002. The Blue Bulls won 22-19 and went on to beat the Lions in the final.
The team is: Zane Kirchner, Gerhard van den Heever, Jaco Pretorius, Wynand Olivier, Jaco van der Westhuyzen, Morné Steyn, Francois Hougaard, Danie Rossouw, Dewald Potgieter, Derick Kuün, Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha, Werner Kruger, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Dean Greyling. Replacements: Bandise Maku, Rossouw de Klerk, Flip van der Merwe, Pierre Spies, Ruan Snyman, Jacques-Louis Potgieter, Deon Stegmann.
