James Hook scored two tries as Wales ended their disappointing Six Nations campaign on a high by outclassing Italy 33-10 in a one-sided encounter at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.
With several experienced operators returning from injury and with 18-year-old winger Tom Prydie making a debut as their youngest-ever international, Wales showed glimpses of the sharp handling and attacking verve that took them to a grand slam two years ago.
Four Stephen Jones penalties had them 12-0 ahead at halftime before outside centre Hook scored two well-crafted tries in five minutes early in the second half.
Winger Shane Williams got the third try for Wales, who finish fourth in the championship, before fullback Luke McLean scored a mazy consolation for Italy, who will finish fifth or sixth depending on the outcome of Saturday’s later games. – Reuters
