The SA Rugby Women’s Interprovincial competition will shift into full throttle on Saturday as the B Section kicks off while the A Section reaches the third round.

The jam-packed day’s action will see five matches being played, while the final match of the round will be played on Wednesday, 9 August, as a Women’s Day special.

In the A Section, 2016 finalists, Western Province and Border will meet at Brookside, home of Villager Rugby Club in Cape Town, and Eastern Province will meet KZN at the Wolfson Stadium in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

In the B Section on Saturday, the Golden Lions, who were the losing finalists last season, will go up against the Leopards at Olën Park in Potchefstroom, the Griffons take on SWD in at the HT Pelatona Projects Stadium in Welkom, and Griquas will meet Boland at the Concordia Sports Ground in Namaqualand.

The Pumas, meanwhile, will battle it out with the Limpopo Blue Bulls at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit next Wednesday as a curtain-raiser to the Currie Cup match between the Steval Pumas and Toyota Free State Cheetahs.

The clash between Western Province and Border will be one of the main match-ups of the weekend as both sides are unbeaten, while they have also been closely matched on attack and defence this season. Each side has scored 12 tries, while Border have conceded three and the Capetonians two.

The Blue Bulls and Free State, meanwhile, will both be determined to register their first victory of the season after stumbling in the opening two rounds, while Eastern Province will have their sights set on building on their encouraging 39-0 victory last week to stay within range of possibly qualifying for a final berth later in the season.

The top two teams in the A and B Sections at the end of the pool rounds will face off in the finals, with the top team on the log in the A Section hosting both matches.

In the B Section the Griffons will want to register a strong start to the season against SWD after losing all of their matches last season, but the George-based side will also have a point to prove.

Boland on the other hand registered a narrow 22-20 victory against Griquas last season, which is expected to motivate both sides ahead of their clash, while the Golden Lions will want to build on an impressive 2016 season in which they won all four of their pool matches when they take on the Leopards, whose only defeat last season was against the Johannesburg side.

The Limpopo Blue Bulls will draw comfort from the fact that they only lost one match last season when they meet the Pumas, but the home team will look to test them after a disappointing 2016 season in which their only victory was in the opening round.
