The Western Province Rugby Football Union will launch a junior talent identification program at City Park on Tuesday.

As part of the efforts of the Bestmed School of Excellence, there will be matches held throughout the day at City Park in order to expose and develop talented young players in the U15 and U17 age-groups.

Following the provincial age-group trials and selection of DHL Western Province junior representative teams, smaller schools and clubs were asked to nominate players for the program.

This program will ensure that promising players who are not representing DHL Western Province at the upcoming National Youth Weeks are identified and developed.

Players will register at 09h00 at City Park with the first game kicking off at 10h00 and an opening ceremony at 11h15.

President of the Western Province Rugby Football Union, Mr. Thelo Wakefield, said that the talent identification program will perform an important role within the youth rugby structures of the union.

“We want to ensure that we leave no stone unturned in the quest to identify and develop talented young rugby players.

“The players which form part of this program have a fantastic opportunity to prove themselves worthy of further consideration as we strive to keep raising the standards of our junior rugby,” he said.
